The Child Of Hermann And Pauline Einstein - 1746 Words

Born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Germany, Albert Einstein was the firstborn child of Hermann and Pauline Einstein, a secular Jewish couple. Upon failing in the industry of featherbedding, Hermann moved the family to Munich, Germany in order to start a new business in electrical engineering with his brother Jakob. Two years after Albert was born, his sister, Maria, came into the picture, later becoming the best friend of his childhood. It is documented that Einstein’s first interaction and true spark of major interest in science came at a rather young age of five or six, when his father showed him a compass. He was intrigued by the fact that no matter which way you spun it, it pointed in the same direction. It was not long after that Einstein began schooling in Petersschule (Peter’s School) in Munich. Moving through Peter’s School with not much difficulty, but moreover with a simple discomfort of the military style formality, he joined the Luitpold Gymnasium in Muni ch at the age of ten. Despite his genius for which he is revered today, Einstein struggled in elementary school. In fact, Einstein had not learned to speak until the age of three, a rather late time relative to most children. He found school rather dull and stiff as it had a stronger focus on Latin and Greek as opposed to his talents and interests, science and mathematics. In 1893, Hermann and Jakob sold the electrical engineering business after not performing when tasked with electrifying Munich, consequentlyShow MoreRelatedThe Life of Albert Einstein837 Words   |  4 Pagesnot know with what kinds of weapons the Third World War will be fought, but the Fourth World War will be fought with sticks and stones.† - Albert Einstein After World War 2 Albert Einstein was a major leading figure in the World Government Movement. A comparison between the themes of child hood in Half

A comparison between the themes of child hood in Half-past Two, Hide and Seek, Leaving School and Dear Mr Lee Essay In the poems Half-past Two, Hide and Seek, Leaving School and Dear Mr Lee themes of childhood are presented to the reader in different ways. All of these poems put forward the idea that certain events in a childs life which they will remember may not be very important to adults. A childs view is put forward by the poets. For example in Half-past Two as the child does not yet know how to read the time on a clock. He knows that the clock some how tells the time but does not know how to read it: He new the clock face, the little eyes And two long legs for walking, But he couldnt click its language To the reader, the phrases such as: Gettinguptime, timeyouwereoffnowtime, Timetogohomenowtime, TVtime, Would give an image of a child who is in the early years of their life so whereas in Hide and Seek the punctuation helps heighten the sense of being a child, U. A. Fanthorpe uses words strung together with no spaces as seen in the quotation above to communicate the sense of child-like behaviour. In contrast to this, we initially get the sense of being a child with Hide and Seek from reading the title. Also, Scannell uses exclamation marks in the narrators speech: Im ready! Come and find me!' In half past two the poem starts off a lot like a childrens story book: Once upon a schooltime. On the second line the capitals emphasise that it is the teacher talking to the child the next line says that what the child had done wrong was not important to the teacher, but was to the child. Hide and seek starts with a childs voice the child is playing a game of hide and seeks it seems innocent and the phrase: Hide in your blindness Is a typical view of the world from a childs perspective. The child is happy thinking that he has found a good hiding place and stays there for a long time after a while he comes out to find that his friends have gone and left him towards the end of the poem there is a feeling of loneliness and I think that the child is scared because the sky is getting darker and everything is quiet, the opposite of what it was when the game was being played. The events in the story in Half past two has a lasting effect on the child whereas the teacher cannot remember what it was she kept him in the school room for. The child does not know how to tell the time all the important times that he new are joined up as one large word: Gettinguptime, timetogohomenowtime This is again as a child would see the world. The child keeps waiting it seems like a story to him: Beyond onceupona He sees the period that  he is in the room as timeless as if he fades away in to nothing ever Into the smell of old chrysanthemums on Her desk, Into the silent noise his hangnail made, Into the air outside the window into ever The oxymoron silent noise his hangnail made emphasises the kind of phrase that a child would say or that one may think. In Dear Mr Lee, the voice enjoys a certain book Cider with Rosie and through the teaching and the examining has taken the enjoyment out of reading the book for a pupils own pleasure. This particular pupil has enjoyed reading the book again and again: If you could see my copy youd know its lived with me stained with Coke and Kitkat, .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .postImageUrl , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:hover , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:visited , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:active { border:0!important; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:active , .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780 .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua1127b2e0d43bd5c079e42938cd55780:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Inside Of Raymond'S Run EssayThe voice is writing to the author of her favourite book Laurie Lee and is apologising because she failed the exam the voice did not like the lesson English until she read Cider with Rosie. This pupil does not like any of the other authors or novelists such as Shakespeare etc. The irony about this poem is that this poem is an examination piece of literature. In Leaving School the voice is a child that is about to start a new school. This poem presents the disappointment and the unhappiness that children remember but again remain irrelevant to adults. Before starting the new school the child is looking forward to going there and they think that its going to be fun: I thought it was going to be fun The child sees this event as a life changing moment: I was eight when I set out in to the world wearing a grey flannel suit / I had my own suit case The child is very grown up has a flannel suit for instance and has his own suitcase the school that he is going to is a boarding school and seem to be very strict and treat the children like adults. All of the above poems have similarities about them such as they are all about childhood but there are also many differences about them such as Hide and seek is about the fun side of childhood and Leaving School is about the scared part and the unhappiness in childhood, Half-past Two is about children that are to scared to ask teachers because they have been told off. Dear Mr Lee is about the curriculum taking the enjoyment out of reading books that are in the syllabus even if out peoples own accord.

Professor Jane Andrews Success in College Career Paper A police officer is something I have always had an interest in becoming. Law enforcement is an exciting career that can open many doors to different jobs, from patrolling the streets to protecting important political figures. Police officers are an essential part of the communities in our nation, offering citizens protection from criminals, preventing crimes, and serving the members of their community. A police officers duties, among other things, include patrolling a specific district or beat, writing citations when necessary, offering escorts for convoys, responding to citizens emergency calls, severing warrants and subpoenas, and writing incident reports after a crime has been committed. 1 An essential characteristic of a police officer is physical stamina, physical and mental endurance, and the ability to keep a calm head. These are just a few of the many duties and essential characteristics of a police officer. A police officers work environment can vary greatly, either being out on patrol or in an office, either writing reports or viewing bulletins. Out on patrol, an officers work environment is his or her patrol car. A patrol car has all the devices necessary for an officer to execute his or her duties. It will contain a radio, a mobile laptop, which is used to run license plates, do background checks, and receive directions to the locations of 911 calls, and weapons, such as a shotgun, to be used in hostile situations. A police officers work environment will vary depending on his or her pecific duties. Becoming a police officer is a physically demanding process. Many people choose to first obtain a college degree in criminal justice or sociology, because it can help you become a higher rank and opens the options to work for higher authority agencies. The basic requirement for becoming a cop are to be free of any felony convictions, be a citizen of the United States, be at least 18 years of age, undergo background checks, and be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of power by the peace officer. These requirements may vary slightly from state to state, but one that is consistent is that everyone must attend police academy. Police academy is an essential step in becoming a police officer. By graduating from police academy, a person becomes post certified, which is a requirement to become a police officer anywhere. 3 At the academy, a person will take courses on firearms training, patrol techniques, crimes scene procedures, and brain training courses, which train an officer on how to react mentally in certain situations. Physical fitness tests are an essential part of the academy, with strict requirements for both male and female requirements. Being a police officer requires both mental and physical toughness. A career in law enforcement can bring a variety of pay amounts. A standard patrol officer makes on average $34,000 a year. 4 Working for different agencies can bring different pay ranges, anywhere from $25,000 a year to $100,000. A police chief will earn towards the upper end of this range. All police officers will be members of a police union, the largest being the International Union of Police Associations, or the IUPA. 5 Being a member of a union brings benefits such as higher wages, health insurance, and a pension plan. The Long Valley by John Steinbeck Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Long Valley by John Steinbeck - Essay Example The aim of this paper is to discuss this matter, as well as any and all other key points of interested related to this. This is what will be dissertated in the following. This work of Steinbeck's is set in the beautiful area of the Salinas Valley of California, with the primary plot being that of simple people who are struggling to find a place for themselves in the world. There are certain issues which are made rather obvious or blatant, one of those being the tensions between town and country, laborers and owners, past and present. These particular issues can be related to by all, which is why The Long Valley is such a delivering and moralizing literary work. There is a subtle yet purposefully planned relationship between the setting and the characters themselves, which is set in the form of an external and internal landscape, with the setting being external, and the characters being internal. The basis and most important part of this relationship is that the characters each have their own distinctive categorization from each other, all which relate significantly to a different aspect of the landscape setting. From the main characters, Henry and Elisa Allen, to more minor ones such as Peter Randall and his eighty-seven pound wife Emma; Steinbeck obviously took his time in creating each one's separate and diverse yet intriguing and relating characteristics, with a telling story plot in his mind. John Steinbeck is a writer who is notoriously known for his intelligent and well thought out writings, and this work of his is categorized by many as the best of it all. The morals, meanings, thoughtfulness, and the fact that practically everyone can gain from this reading a relating and understanding feeling, proves that this work is certainly a must read. For example, when she kneels and opens her hand, but her two palms are together given out the importance of the moral values in the society based on the unification of the people living in the community (Kaufmann, 2006). Her message focuses on the welfare of the society and the importance that friendships carry in respect to the development of the community. The dancer is able to move around freely with her hands and legs both in the same direction as the body. She poses a lot of energy when she stretches one leg behind and both her hands are stretched in front of her face and quite high on her head. She manages to get up and move her legs in unifying steps. In this dance when the dancer kneel down and pulls her other legs far behind her and in the same position stretches her hands high in front of her face, she shows how much friendship and union of the society is important for their growth. This dancer tries to give the audience information through her movement of the body that exists through her changing of the body shape and form to describe the relationship that exists in the society. The facial expression she gives she gives during the dances supports the information regarding the culture and tradition they
